The Inherited Trauma Project 2026
(In Progress)
What Remains In The Body
This is a new body of artwork that closely examines intergenerational trauma, displacement, and the unstable promise of safe refuge. Rooted in my mother’s family experience of forced deportation to a Siberian gulag during WWII, and their subsequent release, and journey as homeless refugees, across Europe to Africa, Canada, and finally, the U.S., this work links inherited memory and embodied fear with contemporary family separation, deportation, and state violence. Details from some works in progress are below! Many more paintings, drawings, and collages to come with an exhibition planned for 2027-2028!
